The Minister stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to labor leaders to include vulnerable seniors in the CCT system was one he would keep.

According to Edu, “the President mentioned very clearly that vulnerable pensioners should be immediately captured on the National social Register and benefit from the Conditional Cash Transfer, as part of the national social safety net expansion and this was made clear in his speech on Independence Day where he committed 25000 Naira for 15million household for three months.”

She urged the NLC to expedite the data collection process for prospective vulnerable pension beneficiaries so they could begin receiving CCT.

“I want this to move along quickly.  That is the major reason I’m here, Dr. Edu remarked. “If we can acquire this data and information within two weeks, we are confident that you will be beneficiaries immediately and you can start earning from next month, which is November.”

She praised Ajaero for working well with others and advised him to keep believing in President Tinubu’s leadership of the federal government as they work to advance Nigeria.

Ajaero responded by expressing his satisfaction with the various poverty alleviation initiatives implemented by the Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Ministry as well as the minister’s dedication to his position.

But he believed that tackling the underlying causes of poverty would make a big difference in how the issue was handled.

“Let’s look at the root of the issue rather than just how to remedy it; if we merely address the symptoms of poverty, the issue will continue. Let’s have a look at more social welfare initiatives and employment creation that will significantly help families.”

The head of the NLC asked the federal government to increase employment by developing a prosperous economy with operating factories that employ people.

He thanked the Minister and said, “We are going to work with you to attain success in this process and your impact will be felt. You were the first member of the federal executive council to pay a visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress during President Tinubu’s Administration.”

Godwin Abumisi, the president of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, commended President Tinubu and the Minister for determining that the pensioners were deserving of the benefits provided by the federal government.

He claimed that pensioners get as little as 5,000–10,000 Naira each month, claiming that $25,000 is a significant sum of money to them. He complimented the Minister for her outstanding job thus far and encouraged her to keep moving forward.
